Tiger Lily

Lilium tigrinum

Photographed at Brunswick Community College Supply, NC on June 5, 2005.  A bold, in your face spotted orange bloomer native to Asia. These babies are 3-4’ tall and covered in large, showy blooms in mid to late summer. Downward nodding blooms with gracefully recurved petals carry strong pistils and stamens.  If you accidentally touch the pollen covered stamens while trying to “smell the roses”, you will have a stained nose and possibly clothing.  Don’t waste your time sniffing them though, as they are unscented. Easy to grow bulbs make the Tiger Lily great for the perennial garden, containers or for cut flowers.
