Kopper King Hibiscus

Hibiscus ‘Kopper King’

Photographed in my backyard in Wilmington, NC on July 14, 2017.  An enormous and beautiful flower bred from our native Hibiscus moscheutos by the Fleming Brothers. The plants are 3-4’ tall and covered with copper tinged, lobed leaves. The more sunlight, the more enhanced the color appears. In addition, 8-10” large, round pink flowers unfurl form enormous twisted buds atop the plant in the summer. Unlike other Hibiscus species, these hybrids don’t reseed and set the garden ablaze with “weeds”. A lovely and tame addition to the southern garden!
