Crinum Lily

Crinum species

Photographed at Brunswick Community College Supply, NC on April 5, 2016.  A bold blooming, sometimes fragrant flowering bulb that is about as tough to kill as they come.  This Amaryllis family member rounds out two of my all-time favorite hardy bulb selections for the southern garden!  Mainly pinks, whites and combinations of the two, these blooms burst from the ground in spring and are truly spectacular.  The foliage is a fantastic conversation piece with its mounding, curling, strappy extra-long self.  This is a popular “pass-along” plant shared by many a gardener because it is awesome and it will grow unattended in most soils for years to come.
