When you were first told of the birds and the bees, I doubt you learned much about the flower itself. Without the flower, nothing much happens. The open flower is the primary reproductive mechanism for more than 250,000 plant species on planet earth. The air we breathe and all of the food we eat begin with a plants ability to reproduce, grow and photosynthesize. This universal truth of life as we know it is why I chose to work with plants as my life’s focus.
The Open Flower attempts to capture a plants most beautifully intricate sensuality through up close and personal photographs surrounded with hand crafted, reclaimed wooden frames. I have carefully captured each flower and built every frame with the essence of their life-giving qualities in mind. I embarked on this journey over 23 years ago alongside knowledgeable and enthusiastic professors at The University of Georgia, with unexpected passion growing over my years spent in graduate school and leading the horticulture and turfgrass programs at Brunswick Community College.
I hope to pass along a seed of my love for plants and invite you to bring the outside in . . . for all seasons.
